| Customer Reviews: The essential SharePoint 2007 resource August 1, 2007 J. Curry 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is THE essential SharePoint 2007 reference for Administrators and Developers.
This is the only book that covers User Profile Properties, and LDAP connection values, scaling out to a SharePoint Server Farm and STSADM (the SharePoint command line interface.) The book contains many powerful, and little known, STSADM commands throughout every chapter, with an amazing STSADM appendix in the back of the book.
Topics covered include:
Deploying SharePoint 2007, recommended topologies and required resources.
Operations and Application management using Central Administration.
Creating and customizing site collections.
Creating and implementing workflows.
Farm, server, application, and site collection security.
Deploying, configuring, and using Share Service Providers.
Creating, configuring, and customizing intranet and internet portals.
Using site columns, content types, and official records using SharePoint
server Enterprise Content management.
Scaling out to a SharePoint server farm, and backing up restoring a farm.
Logging and process analysis of SharePoint and related technologies.
Can't believe this book isn't selling better September 26, 2008 MikeW (Helsinki) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't believe that this book isn't selling better than it is.
It's crammed full with useful information for the SharePoint Administrator and yet is a very handy book to carry around and comes at a very reasonable price.
I can only suppose that people think (perhaps because of the title and the fact that the cover design is similar) that it is a smaller version of the very large and heavy Administrator's Companion.
Well it's not. Unlike that book which was written by a number of different authors before WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 were released, this book was written after release and by a single author with real experience of Administrating the release versions.
So please, if you discarded it once because you already own the Administrator's Companion, don't discard it now. Look carefully at what the previous reviewer wrote and decide if any of those extra subjects interest you and if they do buy this as well. You'll find you'll be happy to carry this around with you something which I bet you never did with the Administrator's Companion.
Best overall Quick Reference SharePoint Book January 14, 2009 B Hyde (Huntsville, AL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best overall quick reference book on SharePoint. During my SharePoint consulting days, this was the one book I would never go to a client site without. It includes a great reference of STSADM commands. It is a great book for a SharePoint newbie or a seasoned professional.
Thank you sir, can I have another? February 8, 2009 kiki-knows-best (Prescott Valley, AZ United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I turn to this book first, then to the other MOSS Administrative books for more detail if needed. I love that I can just read a chapter in this book and "get it" and if I need more depth, I turn to the Best Practices book. This should be on your shelf as part of your MOSS success strategy, you won't be sorry.
