Scott Base: New Zealand's home on "the Ice"
Scott Base was established 50 years ago, during the last polar year, by Sir Ed Hillary and his team. It was initially built to house New Zealand's contribution to the Trans Antarctic Expedition, but has since remained as the home of our Antarctic research programme. Find out more about the last 50 years of NZ's presence on "the Ice", the experiences of the researchers and artists that have worked from the base, and consider the future - what will Scott Base be like in another 50 years when we have the next IPY?
This resource is an example of what we are seeking students to contribute to enter the Polar Contests.
